Dragon Eggs

These spicy truffles pack a lot of heat, along with a fun surprise!



  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 3 tbsp cream
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 3 Dragon’s Breath peppers
  • 1/2 tsp strawberry extract
  • 1/2 tsp red food coloring


  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1 tbsp neutral oil or fat (shortening, vegetable oil, etc.)


  • Grind the peppers and then add to the cream. Mix. Be careful to avoid breathing the powder!
  • Strain into a bowl, then add 1 cup chips and butter.
  • Melt the chocolate: microwave it for 15 seconds at a time, mixing after each burst, until it’s creamy and even. (If you have another preferred method for melting chocolate, use that.)
  • Add the extract and food coloring and mix well.
  • Chill for at least 2-3 hours. Overnight is fine.
  • Scoop out 1/2 tsp pieces and roll into balls, placing on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Wear gloves for this step! (Trust me on this one!)
  • Chill the balls for at least 30 minutes in the freezer. (they should be firm for the next step)
  • Put 1 cup chips and 1 tbsp fat/oil in a bowl and melt (see above)
  • When fully melted, add the 2 packs of Pop Rocks and mix in well.
  • Drop the chilled balls into the melted chocolate and turn with a fork until fully covered. Place on a parchment lined baking sheet.
  • Chill for at least 150 minutes for the shell to set.
